It’s a black day for radio. On Saturday, June 18, I will be appearing on Hour of the Wolf, hosted by Jim Freund, on WBAI 99.5 FM, from 5 to 7 a.m.
Hour of the Wolf’s format will be music, conversation with Jim about speculative fiction, and a reading by the show’s guest (that would be me).
If you’re not in WBAI’s broadcast range (the New York metropolitan area), you can listen to the show on the web.

co-host Zoot?

Hairless person you obviously don’t know me very well if you think I would take second (third!) billing to a giant, logorrheic monkey.
I will have my own show one day, and it will not be named after a scavenging canid whose reputation for cunning and ferocity is wildly overblown.

Holy crap, now there’s a surprise!
I will be in a penguin suit at a wedding, unfortunately. You know if they’re archiving it?
rosiebird
hey, i will be at a wedding too and was about to ask the same question.

Is HOTW generally archived? I will be out of radio range this weekend and not online either. I could try to record it with Audio Hijack but I’ve had mixed success with that lately. (“Mixed” is actually a misstatement. It used to work, but hasn’t since the most recent upgrade.)

Believe me, Mark, no one is more surprised than I am at this. I have no idea whether the show will be archived, however. But the next time we get together I’d be happy to repeat the whole show verbatim.
admin
What is this thing with 5 a.m. weddings, anyway? As I said to Mark (and will reply to Ken), I have no idea whether the show will be archived.

CONGRATS!
I’ll listen!!! I’ll listen!!!
You want me to call in with an agreed-upon question? And will you be reading the untitled story I heard you read in February?
admin
As I said to the intrepid correspondents above, I have no earthly idea whether the show will be archived. I have difficulty imagining that I’ll say anything worth preserving for posterity, for that matter. Enjoy New England.

Re: CONGRATS!
Thank you!
Yes, the agreed-upon question is “What makes speculative fiction writers so irresistibly sexy?” That ought to be good for a few laughs from the listeners.
I hope I’ll be reading something new (if it’s finished by 5 a.m. tomorrow); otherwise I don’t know. The piece I read at South Street Seaport is now finished and is much too long to read in its entirety, but I might read the opening section.
rosiebird
sorry, i read 5 to 7 and was thinking pm. sometimes people, or specifically I, hear what they are thinking and not the message that is being conveyed. my bad.

By 5am I’ll have smoked about 234 cigarettes, so I should sound like a butch Harvey Fierstein- which will get you EXTRA laughs, and an inroad to new and exciting lifestyle choices.
Good luck with whichever story you choose to read-whichever one you like most.
Hey, btw, I want to write back to you re: your trip, but I can’t think of funny/clever retorts. Damned Bob putting pressure on me.
deadscrypt
lmfao!
I meant it was a suprise to see you on my friend’s list!
Apparently, I am on a wierd alternate axis re: my perceptions of time. I shall tune in on the web, so be funny … no pressure! =P

I thought that might be the casea misplaced p.m.or else the wedding was in Singapore.

Re: CONGRATS!
Hey, HEY!, Harvey Fierstein is hot. As far as putting pressure on you for a witty response, Laurie, all I can plead is that real life is funnier than anything I could invent
admin
Oh yeah, no pressure. I feel relaxed already. Sleepy, almost.

Hi, Bob! Listening to Jim talk about Jules Verne right now! I’m recording the show both on tape here in the den and on mini-disc from the stereo in the living room.
rosiebird
can you tree out boot leg copies?
shunn
D’accord! Or at any rate, I will turn the recordings I made into CDs and MP3s for Bob to do make available as he will.
admin
You are the man. As I said to you, having now done the show, I can much better appreciate what a superb job you did in your appearances. It’s difficult to be articulate at 5 a.m. anyway, and you only have one chance to get it right on live radio. I’m just gratified if I didn’t sound like a complete boob.

Re: CONGRATS!
The Karma detective piece is finished? WOO-HOO! I can’t wait. I really enjoyed that reading.

Quick! Do something impulsive that will be heard by millions!

Re: CONGRATS!
Thanks, Bill. As luck would have it, the story (actually titled “The Natural History of Calamity”), collected its first rejection on Saturday, too. Tomorrow it goes out to soil another editor’s desk.

Hah! Hi Muffalina. Your exortation came too late, but thanks. (And for the record, that would be “…heard by dozens.”)
