The Home Office
Beginning today you’ll see some new user icons from the home office in rotation. The icons are culled from a series of terrific photographs of Rapa Nui by

I like Nostril-Cam.

All hail the Moai. Symbol of great civilzations. Bane of little aircraft in many many Japanese games.

Please elaborate for those of us (me) who haven’t a clue.

Rah indeed! And I haven’t even loaded them all yetI’m going to have to rotate the stock, in fact, since I have more icons than slots. You guys rock.

You know, I wrote a response to this yesterday, but apparently I got distracted before hitting POST. D’oh!
That’s a fine, fine collection of giant heads! I had forgotten what you said was on the DVD, and I didn’t look at the contents as I was sending them to you. Very cool pictures. I had never realized what different personalities the different colossi seem to have. Were all 482 photos of the heads?
I think the only place you could go to find a bigger collection of big heads is a SFWA cocktail party.

Thank you! Or more accurately, thank. Yes, one of the things that struck me was the diversity of Moai types. Not all the photos were headsthere are some stunning images that don’t fit the Stonehead News iconography, and I have relatively few icon slots. Also, some fascinating shots are too fine in detail to reproduce well in an image 100 pixels on a side. I urge you to peruse the DVD while you have it.

p.s.
You’re welcome, though it wasn’t such a big inconvenience for me. I was writing on the laptop in the other room. I would just wander into the study every once in a while I check that the zipping-up was still chugging along, and later that the upload was proceeding fine. It all took a very long time, but the heroic computer did most of the work.

I will browse happily. Thanks!
…I am a man of unassuming stature…
I’m afraid I am not familiar with this portion of the SFWA Oath.

It comes right after “On my honor I will do my best/to help the girls scouts get undressed.”

Re: p.s.
“Hal, Hal? Open the DVD drive doors.”
“I’m sorry, Bill, I can’t allow you to jeopardize the mission…”

I’m loving all your new icons! Pretty.
By the way, did you notice that LJ has upped the number of userpics we’re allowed to use? I’m at 82 out of 132….
Chris

There’s a SFWA Oath? I’m experiencing doubt….
shunn
Hey, nice! When did that happen?
But mine says I’m at 98 of 124. What gives?
shunn
You should be! If they didn’t give you the Oath, you may not be a genuine member!
mckitterick
Hm, interesting. I’m a permanent paid member – maybe it has something to do with how much $ we gave them?
mckitterick
Um, oh yeah, now I recall one line: “… and under no circumstances will I allow good ideas to be implemented without first doing my best to beat them into submission.”
shunn
Ah, almost all is explained in the news topic:

I suppose that with a permanent account, you automatically get the biggest possible userpics accrual.

Hey, thanks! I did not know that the icon capacity had been increased. Thanks for the, um, heads-up. There are now 26 icons in rotation, 25 of which are from Rapa Nui.

Hey, useful link. I often forget to check the news page. Thanks.
